I need your signature on a petition to put me on the ballot in November so I can represent you in the State House of Representatives. I intend to run in the November general election to represent all of the People of the 105th District; Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, independent, etc. I do not believe that being a part of a Party apparatus will help me represent the district any better than if I am not.
I have been asked “Why aren’t you running as a Republican again?”
I thought and prayed about running in the primary this time as a Republican as I did in 2014. The primary reason that I chose to run with No Party Affiliation is because of the difficulty of running as a Republican against an incumbent who already has established themselves as a reliable Party supporter for the sake of the Party.
Probably the biggest difficulty I would have is going to Lansing and signing a pledge to the leadership of the House of Representatives when the people of the district are the people who elected me to serve their interest. When a legislator signs a pledge that states that they will “Stand together with my caucus on difficult votes and issues” and to “Vote with the caucus on all procedural votes” I view that as a resignation letter given to the people who voted for them.
I ran as a fiscally conservative Republican in 2014 who values the right to private property, the right to free exercise of religion, free-speech, to bear arms, to raise a family without government intrusion and my intention was to go to Lansing to fight for lower taxes; fewer regulations, a tighter budget and the rights of the people of the 105th District. The People voted for the candidate they believed would best represent those ideals and I am hearing they didn’t get what they voted for. I am running this time with the same platform I ran under last time but this time without a label and as in 2014 – I am running to represent the people not a party.
Please Join me from 6:00 – 7:30 on Thursday, July 14, 2016 in Gaylord. I will be holding a town hall type event in the Headwaters Conference Room between Jay’s Sporting Goods and Cops and Donuts. Let’s talk about the issues this election.
I look forward to meeting you and serving you in Lansing.
